Treatments for windows have been part of so many households for a very long time. Even before the turn of the century, window shades have been a traditional product. In a sense, these shades may seem trivial and one might not even realize the advantages that they can give. One might also fail to see the developments that this product had gone through.

Although advancements may seem out of league for window shades, it is undeniable that the industry of window treatment is quite huge, and what comes after that are the large companies consisting of teams of people dedicated to enhance their products. This group of products may be boring, but it is actually a dynamic and thriving industry that has a lot of product innovations. Aside from curtains, roller shades are also traditional window coverings. In the past, these shades operate with internal springs that make lifting and lowering of the shades possible. Now, pull shades are things of the past because their match have finally come: the roller shades drawn by chains.

Pull shades are manually operated; to lower them, either the tassel of or the shade itself has to be pulled downwards. To raise them, either the tassel or the shade itself again has to be tugged. The drawback with this manual type of mechanism is that it makes these roller shades vulnerable to wear and tear problems. Touching the shades regularly could make it dirty; this means that it will demand a lot of cleaning just to maintain them. Constant pulling may even result in the fabric's damage (or even cause to rip it). Over time, the operating system will cause the control spring to finally break. Once this happens, control over the shade will be unmanageable, or for some worse cases, even impossible. The worst thing here is there is nothing that the user could do to fix the problem. The only remedy would be to buy a new spring shade.

Thanks to the designers and engineers, they have developed a new and improved control system for the roller window shades. This chain-driven or clutch-based system allows control over the shades by pulling a chain that hangs in front or at the back of the shade. The chains can be made from metal pr plastic. Both are strong and durable but more people prefer the metal ones.

There are so many benefits offered by chain-driven shades. In terms of control, one can lower or lift the shades to whatever height desired. For spring shades one has to do an extra work in lowering the shade to a certain level. With the improved ones, positioning the shades is more convenient.

Aside from that, maintaining the good condition of the fabric is easier. Washing of fingerprints off the shades won't be necessary anymore, since there won't be a need to touch it constantly.

However, it would be wrong to think that these clutch-driven shades do not have springs in them anymore. These roller shades still make use of springs but they are not heavily dependent on them as they used to be. If springs were once there for control, now, they are there to assist in control. Aside from being made more durable, springs in modern shades do not have a heavy load of task.

Anyone who would consider roller window shades with the chain-driven system will definitely enjoy the benefits of a low-maintenance and highly durable window treatment.
