As dogs naturally crave for attention, they are bound to live a happier and healthier life if you take time to learn how to train your dog. It is definitely not easy but it is sure to be rewarding if you are able to do it successfully. Bear in mind that house training your dog has no one formula. It is a process that should be undergone with determination and consistency to become successful.

Knowing how to train your dog can be helpful in many ways . Some of the most useful commands include sit, stay, come, and lie down. If you know how, you can even instill discipline when it comes to using the bathroom and sleeping. Dog training should take about half an hour a day and not any longer than that. Allowing time for play after training is also recommended.

The most basic command usually first learned by dogs is the sit command. Using a low voice ask your dog to sit while patting its rear. When it obeys, give it a dog treat. Move along a few yards then repeat the command, pressing down the dog's rear gently. When it sits, reward it again. Repeat the process each day for about a week until the dog learns the command without you patting its rear any longer.

The next thing you should learn is how to train your dog to stay. Using a six-foot lead, you must first tell your dog to sit. Showing the stop position with your hand and using the other hand to hold the lead, move gradually away while telling the dog to stay. Stay four feet away for two minutes. If your dog does not move by then, praise it and give it dog treats when you return. Repeat this method until you can walk six feet away. Next you can do is practice walking out of the dog's sight and teach it to stay even so.

Once you have successfully taught your dog to stay, next thing is to learn how to train your dog to come. Using the lead, command your pet to sit and stay. Walk six feet away and tug on the lead while saying the command "Come" firmly. Reward the dog when it gets to you and gradually increase the distance up until forty feet.

Another command most pet owners are interested in is how to train your dog to lie down. Lie-down lessons can easily be implemented if your dog has mastered the sit command. From sitting position, order your dog to lie down while your hand pats the ground before him. Repeat until he gets the message and reward if he does it successfully. The lie-down command is pretty easy to learn and it goes well with the stay command.
