Christmas is coming just after a little more than a month and I bet you are already starting to bring up your Christmas decors from the basement or search for those in the attic. But before putting up those decorations you have to clean the house first to prepare for the guests and the parties that you'll host. A lot of people loath the tedious traditional cleaning part but it doesn't have to be very hard if you clean your house everyday in the first place. There will be less dust accumulating in the corners of your home. This is also true when it comes to your window shades.

Window shades are good investments but just like any other investments you will have clean them regularly to last longer. Shades are durable and easy to clean but the cleaning you'll do depends on the type that you have. Usually, you'll be worried about the stains and the dusts on the shades. Stains should be wiped off immediately; when stains are already dried it's harder to remove and makes your shade look like a century old. A common remedy for stains is to wipe it off with a damp cloth and use ordinary all purpose cleaner to remove the stain spot. Shades made up of vinyl material are easier to clean because they do not absorb stains easily compared to shades made of fabric. As for dusts, it will help you if you vacuum your shades in a regular interval. Use the small nozzle that comes with your vacuum or use a feather duster if you don't have a vacuum cleaner handy. Remember to dust off the front and back and top to bottom. If you happen to have wood shades on your window avoid using detergent on it or wiping it with a damp cloth. Doing those might cause the wood shade to deform just dust them off using a vacuum cleaner.

The shades itself is a valuable part as the mechanism on your roller shades or any type of window shades you have so it is also important to maintain regularly. You can do this by gently pulling the cord back and forth and check if the shade will still pull up and down. Doing this help prevent the mechanism to get stuck or all tangled up inside the roller. If you have kids at home it is better to tie up the chord or pull to shorten the length so your kids can't play with it. You can do this stylishly by using a ribbon or one of those curtain holders to hold them up.

Again, window shades are good investments but it's all up to you how long it will last. Do clean them regularly. Failing to clean them can cause the parts to fall apart. Ignoring your shades maintenance is just as good as flushing your money down the drain.
