It is in no way advantageous to train in your back garden because your home is nearly always too close to someone elses - you can never know for sure where your arrow will end up. This is true to any other open spot although if you must shoot in an open wood or forest make sure it is far from public footpaths and it is a place that folks hardly ever go; even then mark out your shooting area and make sure that there is plenty of roughage behind your target to pick up any stray shots.Even so this is still not advised. On top of that, If you are at a range and other folks are walking towards their bull, never ever take your shot.

Ensuring that you never injure someone else should always be a priority. Never shoot wherever there may be a risk. Then again, you also have a duty to look after yourself.

At all times be dressed in appropriate clothing. An arm guard and a long sleeve shirt at the very minimum will keep you free from injuries. If you shoot while not wearing them you are more than likely to take some skin off your arm or hand and you won't have the ability to shoot again for quite a while. Long hair can also get in the way so you need to be wearing suitable head hear or have it tied back at all times.

If you are uneasy about basic safe practice with compound bows you should contemplate taking a safety lesson. These are normally free at shooting ranges or at the most cost $10 and you will be taught about all the safety measures involved. If you learn the proper skills from the start which includes this, you will be a much better archer - or hunter - in the long run.
