Alternative Energy - Functional Uses of Solar Power

With this, the need for newer and cheaper alternative energy becomes more crucial. One viable solution that can substitute today's standard energy source is through the use of solar panels. Solar panels are specially built heat absorbers that gather heat energy emitted by sun, transforming it into useable electrical source that is similar to the energy produced by power plants. To give an overview, solar panels are made up of photovoltaic cells that vary in size depending to its amp/watt rating. The cells are made up of thin wafer of silicon that features a positive and negative charge.

When these panels are placed directly to the sunlight, solar procedure takes place instantly. The energy is distributed uniformly across its grid inside. This distributed energy is then forwarded to the junction box located at the back of the every panel and emerges as direct electrical current. Just beneath its silicon wafers, a sturdy layer of toughened glass can be seen that is 3mm thick. The idea of its incredible thickness is to be strong enough to resist and tolerate high degree of flexing and extreme heat; at the same time it should be not so thick enough to jeopardize the solar filtering process.

This alternative energy is actually being used in three different ways:

1.) Heating Water through Solar Energy
One of the most creative uses of solar energy is in heating water. Its installation is also similar to regular solar panels where they are place on top of the roof. Using this type of energy in heating the water also offers one of the most economical ways of bringing hot water in bathrooms. Aside from this, it also helps alleviate the work of your central heating system, thus reducing your monthly bills.

2.) Solar Cells
The use of solar cells is actually the most popular form of harnessing solar power. Using multiple grids of solar cells, great amounts of solar sunlight are being absorbed that directly transforms it into useable electric energy.

3.) Solar Cookers
Solar cookers are also known as solar furnaces. These solar furnaces are usually built small. It can concentrate the sun's powerful energy straight into tiny spaces that can produce extremely high temperature. The heat energy it produces is so hot you can cook or boil water over it.

4.) Satellite Energy
Satellites that roam around the orbit of the earth also use solar energy. These makes it possible for earth dwellers to enjoy telephones, GPS mapping, satellite TV/viewing, weather forecasting, internet surfing, and many other forms of facilities.

5.) Self-Luminous
One of the newer uses of solar energy today is in the form of self-luminating objects. In here, instead of storing the whole raw solar energy produced by sun, luminous object will only store light energy and then release it when it is needed. This alternative energy is a useful resource when there is a need for emergency lighting, especially during sudden power outage.
