When it is cold outside it can be a little difficult to start working but at the end of the day somebody has to do the needful. The dew and fog can damage the furniture and other stuff in the outdoors. Removing them for the outside is the best place to begin with. It is a lot better to take care of the heavy work first. The supplementary work can be left for later.

With winter home maintenance, you can never be too sure what you covered and what you did not – the best way to do this is start outdoor and continue with indoor adjustments when you are done. This way you have a system, and you will not have to worry about forgetting something. We are going to start right at the top with the roof.

Roof Winter Maintenance – Proper insulation, not to mention a thorough clean up of the area will help with part of the problem. Slippery metals will also ensure that the snow is slowly but surely slipping of the roof when it is starting to melt. The main issue with roofs in the winter is the fact that they can easily get soaked. Either because they have not been properly cleaned and ice dams formed in time, or simply because proper insulation was not considered to this moment. Proper insulation helps by not allowing differences of temperature to reach the gutter – this is what usually causes ice to form inside the gutter. Finally yet importantly, slippery metal will ensure that when the snow begins to melt it all the water will not flood your roof, but will slowly rinse down the roof.

General outdoor maintenance – The worst thing about winter is the fact that you can easily get your bones broken. What I meant to tell you is that you need to take care of your alleyways and make sure you purchase enough rock sand not to allow ice to form on your pathways. You see, you may be willing to clean up the snow every day, but it is a lot easier when you do not allow ice to form – ice forms usually when temperatures vary between in high intervals – for example, after a warmish winter day comes a very cold night. As clean as your alleyway might be, if you do not use rock salt by morning you will have a beautiful ice ring in front of your house.
