The Mayans are said to have made a very accurate calendar, it is said to be even better than the modern calendar we use today. This Mayan calendar says that on the year 2012, December 21 of that year to be exact, a galactic cycle that occurs only once every 26,000 years is said to happen. They say that the earth and the moon will be in perfect alignment with the rest of the Milky Way galaxy. This alignment will result in the "awakening" of the human race's consciousness.

This awakening is said to be the end of the era of war and turmoil and usher in the new era of peace and enlightenment. So in actuality, the 2012 Mayan calendar prophecy does not really mean that the world will be left in ruins by a grim catastrophe, they say that the only thing that will happen is that the world as we know it now will come to an end.

The 2012 Mayan calendar prophecy eerily coincides with a lot of other predictions that also talk about the end of days; the Hopi Indians of North America also have a similar prophecy like that of the Mayans. They say that when the blue star "Kachina" (Sirius) becomes fully visible , a world war will happen that will eclipse all the other wars that happened before it. The war will be so great that the great nations of the world will definitely destroy each other. This great world war is said to be a purifying of sorts for the planet. After this war, the earth will once again be purified and the few remaining survivors will be able to start anew.

The Hopi prophecy is not the only doomsday prediction that coincidentally happens at the same time as the 2012 Mayan calendar. There are people who say that the end of days as said in the book of Revelations in the Bible will soon become true, believers say that the signs show that there really is an impending battle between heaven and hell, and the battleground is here on earth. Another prophecy that is said to come true in 2012 is that of Nostradamus, in one of his quatrains (4 line poems) he says that a comet will definitely hit the earth causing catastrophic damage.
