The Mayan civilization has recently been a popular query in different search engines, more particularly the 2012 Mayan calendar. Who are these people and what do they exactly say about the year 2012?

The Mayan civilization is one of the most advance ancient civilizations of their time. Another Mayan milestone is their system of calendar. The most talked about is the 2012 Mayan calendar or the long count. It is believed that the Long Count was first used on 13.0.0.0.0 which is approximated as 1 Aug 3114 BC in the Gregorian calendar, if the pattern of counting is followed, the calendar will reach 13.0.0.0.0 again on the 21st of December 2012. As to what will happen on 2012, there is no artifact that says the Mayans know what will happen during the end of the cycle.

Whether the end of the 2012 Mayan Calendar means end of the world or not, the question is do people need this kind of omen to start a change in their way of living?
