Log cabins are right up there with fireplaces and candle lights when romance is the subject at hand . Forget about jam-packed beaches and resorts - rural retreats are the way to go if you want to ensure that you and your loved can have ample opportunity to discover and rediscover each other.

But , you should also remember that vacations may also entail a whole lot of stress inducing things packing and figuring out what to bring, when to leave and when to go home. If you want to disaster-proof your romantic retreat, consider the following.

1. Cabin amenities - This is directly related to the activities that you have in mind. If you plan to spend the hours taking in the scenery in the hot tub or breathing in the country atmosphere as you take long walks, then you may not need amenities such as home entertainment centers (TV/DVD player). Luxury cabin rentals also usually provide facilities such as golf courses and driving ranges; but if you would rather stay and cuddle with your partner, there is no need for that, is there?

2. The setting - It is not as romantic if the things you get to notice the most when you look out the window are skyscrapers. The most romantic cabins are those situated in off the beaten paths. Look for those with ample grounds so you won't be in plain sight of other holidaymakers, or choose those covered with lush vegetation.

5. Catering - A lot of log cabin rental companies do not come with catering, so you would have to bring food yourself. Some arrangements involve you paying for a well-stocked kitchen though, so you won't have to worry about bringing and cooking food. Learn about catering services, in detail. Find out about the kitchen appliances available. You should also know where the nearest deli, restaurant and grocery store are.

6. Bath Essentials - Remember that in romantic getaways, there is a great deal of mood -setting; that is, if you want to please your partner. This is in relation with the self-catering characteristic of cabins. Some companies or owners may give you a complementary set of bath oils. Always assume that they won't, unless it is specifically stated. Bring your own, for a truly nice dip in the hot tub. Throw in a couple of scented candles so your hot baths would leave you relaxed AND invigorated.
