Over a period of twelve years, the Chinese zodiac will have a corresponding animal assigned to each year. There are four trines in which these animals are placed, the first has the donkey, the rat and the dragon, the second has the snake, the rooster and the ox, the third has the dog, the tiger and the horse and the fourth has the sheep, the pig and the rabbit. For the Chinese astrology tiger, the years assigned are 1902, 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998 and 2010.

These years are also assigned one of the elements. The tiger is of the element earth, but depending on the year, it can be water, wood, fire, earth and metal. For instance, 1986 would be a fire tiger sign. The use of elements is common in traditional Chinese thought and culture.

These will also influence the traits of those who have this sign. This is similar to the Western zodiac, where attributes are assigned to the elements and animals and then fall onto those born under the respective signs. Tigers are brave, a trait that goes well with ambition and hard work.

Of course, given that the tiger is a large and fearsome cat, courage makes sense as a supposed trait. They are also incredibly vehement, which is related to the quality of courage, somewhat, as it means that they will stick by what they are fighting for, possibly in quite an ostentatious way. Self-reliance is another thing, and this assists the tiger in doing whatever they want in their own way.

As these people are less likely to have to rely on others and have more freedom, it is a very good trait to have. Friendliness is another attribute and, needless to say, it is a positive one. This goes well with hope, an incredibly optimistic thing. Resilience will reinforce those qualities such as courage and self-reliance. On the much more negative side, these people tend to be somewhat vain and can have disregard for others.

Our large feline here can be compared, in lots of ways, to the large feline of the Western zodiac. They both are courageous and generous, but tend to be vain and childish when they do not get what they want. These traits apply in day-to-day life, and can appear in many ways.

For instance, they will be full of energy but may risk illness if they force themselves to work too hard. The uniqueness that they have can be seen in their fashion of dress and the way that they decorate their homes. The ambition and self-reliance, of course, will be most on display in the workplace.
