The Return of Buffy

The hottest entertainment news today is no other than hottie Sarah Michelle Gellar, most famous for her role as the chic Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She is back on the small screen with a new series on CW titled Ringer, which will show its first episode this September 13. Ringer is a drama-thriller about troubled twin sisters whose characters are worlds apart and the troubles they get themselves into.

Unlike Buffy, however, Gellar will not be seen in sneakers, jeans and hoodies in Ringer. She will no longer be the teenage vampire-slaying high school student repeatedly saving the world from the invasion of the undead. Since there won't be a lot of action or fight scenes in Ringer, and because of the nature of her characters, we will see more of her in designer wear and high heels. This is one thing she is complaining about with her current project - her feet ache because they aren't used to fancy footwear. Except for this one fact, thirty-four year old Gellar is glad about her TV return.

Besides her role as Buffy, Gellar is also well-known in the big screen for her roles in The Grudge, Cruel Intentions, The Return, Scream 2, and I Know What You Did Last Summer. She has spent the last 8 years as a big screen actress and lately in 2009, as a mom. She and husband Freddie Prinze Jr. now have a daughter.

This time, however, she is going back to television and turning her back on movie roles. Why not stick with films, one asks? Celebrity gossip time: frankly, she was a bit disappointed with how her movie career went. After Buffy was not a great time for her, playing in the arena of big screen entertainment. New to this field, her experience molded her opinion that the great three-dimensional character roles in movies are simply too rare. There were not enough opportunities for her. For Gellar, television is a better time to be an actress these days than films.

Ringer is a sudsy and smart thriller wherein Gellar plays twins, Bridget and Siobhan. Bridget is a former stripper who is hiding from the FBI as well as the mob. After she sees her sister apparently killed, she fills Siobhan's shoes. Siobhan is Manhattan socialite who is unhappily married. The series will revolve on the masquerade of Siobhan by Bridget, unraveling her many secrets, not the least of which is being a mistress of the husband of her best friend, and evading the mob and the authorities. Gellar says that this series is the right balance of what her fans would want to see her be on screen: a mix of Buffy and Cruel Intentions.

Celebrity gossip circles are excited about the coming show. Its plot is intricately twisted, and it is co-starred by Nestor Carbonell of Lost, Ioan Gruffudd of Fantastic Four, and Kristoffer Polaha of North Shore. Gellar is happy with this new project. She even quips about sharing all of those great looking men with her twin selves - a pretty great job.
