As you can see, it pays to visit your gynecologist first as your fertility problem may be something that he/she can manage.

When Treatments are Necessary

There are instances when gynecologists refer a patient to a fertility specialist immediately after an initial consultation. Some of these are the following:

When there is a problem with one or both fallopian tubes, regardless of the patient's age

When the patient has endometriosis

When there is anovulation caused by ovulation problems or disorders such as PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)
When the patient is 38 years of age or older
