Pirate Costume - How to Make it Unique

There are a lot of costumes you can wear for the Halloween. Some popular choices are fairy, French chambermaid, princess, and witch costumes for girls. For guys, prominent choices are policeman, fireman, pilot, baseball player and football player uniforms. Another famous option for girls and guys alike is the pirate costume. It is so famous it would be impossible not to see one in a Halloween party. If that is the case, what can you do to make your pirate costume look unique?

For guys, you have two styles to choose from. You can be the captain of the ship or you can be one of his followers. The captain would naturally have a more complicated costume. You would need a trench coat worn over white dress shirt and vest. The dress shirt usually has ruffled collar and sleeve ends. For your lower garment, you can wear long pants with ends tucked inside your boots or knee length shorts with garters at the ends. You would also need a captain's hat, a sword or an old looking rifle.

Usually, the captain's costume comes in red, blue or black. The red and blue colors give the costume more class. They give you that commanding look of a real captain even if you are just a pirate. The black color on the other hand gives a rustic look which is fitting for pirates.

If you want to be one of the lower ranking pirates, there are also several options for you. One would be to wear black pants and shirt with stripes. The common color for the top is white and red but others also use white and blue. The shirt is usually worn with a long strip of cloth tied around the waist. A variation of this is to have pants with stripes and plain shirt. To complete either pair, you can wear a scarf on your head. And do not forget the eye patch. You can choose to have both the pants and shirt plain but the cloth tied on the waist must have stripes.

If you want to go as a hunky pirate, have your pants really tight. If you want, you can use leather pants. Then have the top unbuttoned down to your bellybutton.

For girls, you have a range of options as well. You can wear a plain short skirt paired with striped tank top. You can also have a short balloon skirt paired with a corseted top. If you do not like short skirts, you can wear it long but make your top look sexy by having a low neckline. If you do not like to wear a skirt at all, have a tight fitting pair of pants. It would look great with a long sleeved blouse tied at the midriff to expose your abs. For all of these, have a scarf on your head.

Another pirate costume for girls would be the version of the captain's uniform. Wear a similar coat or jacket but it should really be tight. Pair it with a ruffled skirt. Or you can also have the jacket only but have it made like a short dress.

A pirate costume may be common but there a lot of ways to play around with it to make you look unique.
