Are there some old black-and-white baby pictures in your loved ones album of your grandparents or great grandparents when they were babies? Most families have a few and they are still just as cherished by the grandkids like they were by the mothers and fathers that had them taken. Baby pictures have a specific appeal to them like no other photos that are taken and every parent would like to freeze frame that adorable little face in time so they will invariably be in a position to look at it and remember what the youngster was like when they were very young.

Even though you will likely take at least some photos when the infant is only days old or even hours old, these might not be the best pictures because let's face it, not all newborns are that pretty before hand. The best pictures usually come at a couple of months of age after the baby starts to smile at things and they have taken on their own little personality. This is when most mothers and fathers will go to a photography studio or these days, taking your own photos with a digital camera and printing some 8x10s yourself is another option.

If you do take the newborn child to a specialist photographer, it doesn't always mean you have to dress them up so much. Sometimes a more casual outfit with a cap or bonnet with their name embroidered or printed on it can make some of the more natural, most beautiful looking photos. A casual outfit and setting can display your infant the way it appears more often than not and these may be the memories that you really want to capture the most. Casual photos are very popular these days, occasionally more so than the formal ones.

You should also consider that when you plan to take the baby to a professional photographer or a photo studio, the newborn child might pick that particular day to want to cry and perhaps even scream it's leave! A baby has been acknowledged to frequently refuse to cooperate at all when you like them to the most. Many parents have paid good money for photos that didn't turn out quite how they wanted. If you take your own photos in your home, you can be ready when the infant is ready and stand a much better chance of getting those very cute and creative shots you actually want to take.

Always try to possess a digital copy of your favorite photos, particularly those of your babies because they cannot be replaced if you've a fire or flood at your home. Keep the copy in a safe place somewhere apart from your house so you will have it in case you ever did lose your originals whatever the excuse. Even professional studios will make you a digital copy often times ask any for one or if it comes with the picture package that you opt to buy from them. Always ask about that option before you make your mind up a photographer or studio.
