Birth of course is one of the most challenging things to plan, as a lot of moms who formed a birth plan imagining that's the way it would work out know. Cesareans understandably are something else. Except for emergency cesareans, they're just planned and there is a certain method. This means a cesarean birth plan will be helpful and set up a birth experience that is as intimate and honoring as possible.

Next are some things to examine for planning a c-section birth plan.

In the course of the surgery, would you like......

The father, a relative or doula in the OR and in the recovery room?
Music playing in the OR during the delivery?

Someone taking photos or video?

Should it be that the little one requires medical treatment outside the Operating room would you like a someone to stay with you while your partner or family member goes with the little one to provide reassurance. As well to be advised or have the father told what is happening and why.

The curtain taken down and the infant held for you to see at the moment of birth.

To keep the umbilical cord uncut and connected to the placenta. (you might suggest a specific time in consultation with your doctor)

Not to have your arms strapped down so you can come into contact withyour infant after birthing.

To have your child positioned skin to skin on your breasts as soon as possible while still in the Operating room.

To be able to breastfeed your child in the recovery room as quickly as is doable.

Curtail the amount of people who have direct physical contact with your baby to only what is medically necessary in addition to my husband (partner/family member).

Skin to skin bonding time with my child prior to them being bathed and dressed.

To participate in babies initial bath.

To postpone immunizations, eye ointment and vitamin K.

Decline having formula or sugar water being given to your child.

No tests to be performed or medications administered, etc, before you or the father/family member have been consulted and given agreement.

These are some central points for you to explore and look into. When you write down your cesarean section birth plan start with, your complete name, medical/insurance details, partner, husband, attending family members or doula's name and communication details. Be sure to write it in the first person ie I, my etc and write it some time in advance so you can show and discuss it with your doctor and others associated to the delivery. Keep in mind it is your newborn's birth, this is a miraculous and unique event, a c-section birth plan can help make it what you want it to be. Just because c-section delivery hasn't been done the way your birth plan outlines, doesn't mean it can't!.
