Why do you need to change computer IP address? Let s say you re surfing and you get a Page Not Found error message when you try to access a page. The reason for this is that the web server does not accept your IP address. You can resolve this problem by renewing your computer s IP address. You may also need to bypass online bans imposed by message boards and other sites and you can use this by changing the IP. And, occasionally, you may accidentally be assigned an invalid IP.
You can try these steps to change computer IP address:
Click on the Start button and choose Run .
When the prompt box appears, type cmd in the field then click OK.

A DOS command prompt window will open. Type ipconfig /release in the prompt and press Enter. This will release your current IP addresses.

Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter. This will assign your computer a new set of IP addresses.

If the above process does not resolve your connectivity problems, you may need to unplug your modem and router for a few hours and then repeat the process.

This process will work for private IP addresses that are used only within your network. For public IP addresses, you may have to get in touch with your ISP and ask them for a new IP address, particularly if you are assigned a static IP. Note that for your security they may ask you for proof of identity to stop others from getting your IP address for identity theft purposes. Once you have been assigned a new IP address or been given detailed directions on how to change your IP you may need to modify your settings to the new one provided by the ISP.

If your computer is using the Windows Vista OS, here is the process to change computer IP address:
- Click on the Start button and right-click on Networks then select Properties.
- Select Network and Sharing Center.
- Right-click on your network card.

Select Diagnose. The Windows Network Diagnosis window will open. Choose Reset the Network Adapter .

When prompted, give permission to continue.

If you are a Mac user, you can change computer IP address if you re using OS X:
- Select System Preferences from the Apple Menu
- Click on Network and select AirPort (or Ethernet) then click the Advanced button
- Go to the TCP/IP tab then click Renew DHCP Lease.

Finally, if you are running a Linux shell, here is how to change your IP by simply using one command line.
Open the Shell command prompt screen.
Decide what IP address you want.

At the prompt, type ifconfig eth0 192.168.x.xxx up, replacing the x s with your desired numbers.

Run the command by pressing Enter. This will change computer IP address; confirm that the change is successful by typing ifconfig at the prompt to display the current IP and verify that it is the one that you selected.
