The foundation of all good essays starts with research and brainstorming. This is where you collect information pertaining to the topic you want to write about and start looking for ideas and themes to write about. Research will allow you to write convincingly about the subject while brainstorming will allow you to gather your ideas and distill the best ones into a coherent narrative.

Planning and Outlining

Now that you have done the legwork, completed your research, and gathered your thoughts for ideas, you can start planning your essay. For those unused to essay writing, you will find that writing an outline is helpful. By writing an outline, you're sketching out the bare bones of your essay. This makes it easier for you later on, when all you need to do is fill those bare bones with meat.

As you gain more experience and get better writing essays, you'll find the need to write an outline less and less. Most expert writers hardly even bother to write an outline anymore. All the outline they need is right inside their heads. Years of writing have trained their brains to think in a logical and coherent manner so that there's almost no need to organize their thoughts on paper. Make it a habit to write an introduction, a body, and a conclusion in all your essays. Good essay writing always has these elements of writing present. It allows you to state your essay's premise and allows you to lay the foundation for your successive arguments or points.

The body of the essay will be allotted to exploring your essay's main premise and supporting it with additional facts or points. This is where good research will show through. A well-researched essay will have a strong body as centerpiece.

Your essay's conclusion is also equally critical. Many good essays often fail to take root in the readers' minds because the conclusion was weak or was ineffective. You need your conclusion to be powerful and satisfying.

If you follow these tips, and practice them conscientiously, essay writing for you would transform into an effortless activity; and before you know it, you've become an expert essayist yourself.
