Jewelries are expensive. And diamond jewelry is even more costly. But why do people buy them? Why are there people who are willing to shed thousands or even hundreds of thousands dollars just to have a diamond jewelry? Is it all about vanity? Have men become obsessed with looking good? Is artificial and accessorized beauty now the real beauty?

Maybe this can be better answered with an examination of how the society now values the things around the world. What is more important to people? Before people find happiness in a simple black and white movie, in a walk in the park or in family time together. What beauty is back then is perceived as those with a healthy body, nice hair, nice skin and others.

At present things suddenly have become a little (or is it just a little) shallow. Because of the pressure of society to be this kind of person or that, people have become a bad player. They have used many unnatural means of achieving what they think is good, beautiful and a source of happiness.

It is not to say that it is wrong to buy a diamond jewelry. But the question lies on what it is for. Why do people buy those despite the extremely high cost of acquiring them?

The society, as it evolves and as media becomes more widespread and influential, places a heavy pressure on people who feel that they are not at par with the others. For some reason, the world has inculcated in people's mind some stereotype that are harmful and even fatal to a lot of people. The society now implies, and sometimes dares express, that thin is beautiful. That signature bags and clothes are cool. That having the latest in fashion and technology is a must. And that having a lot of jewelries is a status indicator.

In reality, there is nothing wrong with the things just mentioned above. What is wrong is that the media or the society also implies, and sometimes dares expresses, that the alternative is unacceptable. That being fat is ugly, using and wearing cheap and unbranded bags and clothes are not cool at all. And that not wearing any accessories, or jewelries or even diamond jewelry is an indicator of being an economic inferior, poor and of no power.

This is where the wrong comes in. Per se, nothing is wrong with wanting to be thin. There is nothing abnormal about a person wanting all his clothes, bags, shoes, etc. to be of signature brands. And there is certainly nothing appalling about wanting to have all a lot of diamond jewelry to wear and display. As long as one can do it and afford it, it's a non-issue. But when a person pursues these things for them to blend and gain attention in the society, the wrong comes in, especially if he pursues these things beyond his means.
