Why do people find it hard to do public speaking? Why is it very difficult for them to stand in front of many of people and deliver their message? Why do a lot of people struggle in this area?

Fear. This is the answer to all the questions mentioned above. Fear is what's keeping people doing public speaking from being confident and straight-forward when speaking publicly. It is fear that gets the better of them, and fear that makes them sound with less credibility and integrity than what they actually have.

Fear to forget what they have to say. This fear is root out from the fact that a man's memory is often affected and influenced by his nerves and the things around him. If he is nervous and extremely panicky in the inside, the speaker may experience what is known as mental block. This is a state of a person's mind when he just forgets about everything. He can not recall what he has mastered or even remember anything at all. This is the biggest fear of public speakers who go up the stage with a memorized piece.

Blocking mentally is more common to public speaking with a ready speech. This is because the source of words of such speaker is from the memory, not from his thoughts and heart. The problem about memorized speech is that, more often than not, when one line is forgotten, the whole thing crashes. It is like a tower made of building blocks that if one block is missed, the whole tower will go down. Thus, it is better to prepare a speech that is not only from the heart and not made by someone else, but a speech that is based on an outline with the contents that is coming from one's own thoughts and ideas.

Fear to be embarrassed and be booed by the crowd. These things do happen. Maybe it does not happen everyday, or maybe not a lot because such thing is a sign of an inferior civilization and lack of respect for the speaker. But the fact is, there is always a possibility that the speaker will be embarrassed by his listeners if he screws up. And because of that, public speaking does not become easier.

Fear of committing a mistake. When about to do public speaking, the things that do not matter on an ordinary day all of a sudden becomes a big deal. The makeup suddenly becomes a big deal. "Did I put too much make up on?" "Did I not put on enough?" "Am I wearing the right outfit" Is this outfit not flattering to my figure?" "Did I pronounce the word correctly?" On an ordinary day, these things would not really be a huge deal to a person. But when speaking publicly, the person suddenly goes under the spotlight. A single mistake gets magnified. Thus, delivering a public speech is made even harder.
