Historians agree that the early basketball jerseys are not practical uniforms for use in the sport. During those times, however, jersey design was grounded on durability rather than comfort of the players. Needless to say, therefore, basketball players during the period of infancy of basketball as a sport only have a couple of jerseys and the team owners expect that the jerseys last within the whole year. Just imagine short sleeves and baggy trousers for men and long sleeves and long skirts for women. Wool was the best choice at that time for basketball jerseys because the knitted garments breathed and stretched. But they were definitely not fit for the play of NBA action.
