It is also advised for guests to make sure they have locked all their doors, including balcony doors, every time they leave their room. If they have rented a car for their Jamaica vacation, they should make sure that their car doors are locked, and they should always bring their valuables with them instead of leaving them in the car. Although a lot of locals (especially the vendors) claim that marijuana or ganja as it is locally known is still legal, fact is, it is illegal, and visitors should never buy any of it from locals. A lot of ganja offered to tourists may also be laced with strong elements that may knock them out for a few moments, allowing unscrupulous locals to get their wallets and other valuables. Moreover, tourists caught with marijuana and other drugs in their possession are arrested and punished.

As with travelling in other countries, there are some areas in a city that should be avoided. Inner cities are a hotbed for crimes, so visitors should avoid wandering in these areas. Moreover, it is never recommended for tourists to wear expensive-looking jewelry while taking a stroll in the beaches and streets, as well as showing large amounts of money. It would be wise for male visitors to put their wallets in their front wallets and for women to hold their purses tightly. Backpacks can also be easy targets as they can be slashed without the one bringing it knowing.
