Microwave ovens have been around since the 1970's and have been testified as one of man's greatest creations. Who would have thought that cooking without fire two hundred years ago was possible and then the electric stove was designed and then the microwave oven was invented. This can only tell the world how inventive man continues to become year after year. The only question is... what is next?

Almost every home in the world probably owns a microwave oven and if they don't it is because they live in poverty or a third world country. This machine has become a way a life for many countries because it cuts down on cooking time and the taste does not differ as much as the conventional oven. Just like every other appliance, a microwave oven will possibly need a repair or two in its lifetime. If you decide to take on the repair process on your own you will need to be prepared but if you ever feel like it is too much to handle, it is best to stop what you are doing and call a professional before you cause more trouble than you started with.

It is best to always have a voltage meter on hand which you can pick up from a department store or hardware store and having the owner's manual is always a good idea too.

You have to make sure the capacitor is discharged and it does not matter if the microwave is unplugged or not. It still has to be done so this is the first step. To do this, you want to follow the directions in the owner's manual and do not be afraid if you see a spark or two.

Let's say that your microwave just will not start at all. Make sure it is unplugged and check the outlet for any burn marks. This could mean that the outlet blew and just needs to be changed. Other problems could include the fuse being blown or the door switch could have something wrong with it. If those things are okay, the fan motor could have failed.

If you are having problems with the microwave continuing to blow fuses then the diode or capacitor might need to be changed out. Re-test them after you change them to see if there is any difference. Another reason could be a magnetron malfunction but this is a very technical issue so you should call a professional in to take care of that.

If you notice that your microwave does not cook properly then your breaker might not be putting out the right amount of power. Another reason could be a bad motor for the turntable.
