People usually hear Christians going on missions. They say it is noble, selfless and kind. But do they really know the meaning of these missions? Why do Christians travel to a certain place to do Christian duty? Why do churches have missionaries that they send to strange and hazardous places? How can people give up their lives to be in a place where there is no water, electricity and other basic needs? How can some people leave their comfortable lives to go to countries where Christians are persecuted, jailed or killed ?

Faith, love and obedience - these are the driving force of every Christian who goes on missions. Love for God and for people. This kind of love is the kind that is selfless. Being a Christian is understanding that a person's life on earth is temporary and that through the grace of God, one can spend eternity with him in heaven where love and joy reign , nothing less. A Christian who has genuine love in his heart will share this good news to other people and bring the gift of salvation to them, and joy to the heavenly Father.

Faith is believing in things not seen. Faith is trusting God. Giving up one's comfortable life for a mission to a place where getting one's basic needs is a daily struggle, or to a place where death o Christians is not uncommon, or to places where people have great cynicism on Christianity is extremely difficult. If one would weigh the pros of cons of this decision, going on a mission would be a stupid choice. But add faith to the equation and not heeding to one's calling to be a missionary will not even be at par.

Faith that no matter what the situation is in the place where one would be sent for a mission, God will be in their midst, is what makes missionaries forget about all the shocking odds of the mission. "If God is for us, who can be against us?" This is a common scripture held on by people sent on dangerous missions. They are sent their by God, the most powerful being, the creator of heaven and earth. He is God of all. As this fact sinks in, no Christian will fear anymore .

Obedience. This is the third motivation for Christians going on missions. Missionaries who go to a mission have been called to do so. They have been impressed with the burden in their hearts to serve God by going outside of their own community and preach the gospel to other people. Thus, when they follow the calling, they are doing so out of obedience.
