Various day traders can actually adapt a certain style of day stock trading which may match the personality of the trader. Scalping is one style of day trading which should be ideal for traders who want to have short-term trades only. This style of day trading only takes minutes to execute, and that's already long, considering some scalping trades only take seconds. For traders who want to maintain longer positions, at least until the end of the trading day, swing trading is more ideal. Take note that even in 'long | term' trading, all positions will have to be released by the time the trading day ends. For a lot of traders, flexibility is the key, so they should be holding positions for as long as needed, but only until profits are already maximized.

Aside from styles, there are also various types of day trading: ranging trades, counter-trend trades and trend trades. Trend trades follow the movement of the stock price (in other words, buying when there is an increase in stock price), counter-trend trades go against the current price movement, and ranging trades go between these two ends, and is useful if the is moving unpredictably. It should also be mentioned that while some only trade one kind of stock, there are other traders that have various trades all in one day.
