But is this the only way you can capture a moment candidly? Here are some tips for you to follow so you can have better candid digital photography shots.

When you are set to take candid shots, take your camera everywhere with you and set it readily to a setting that when you see a candid pose worth immortalizing in digital photography, you can quickly capture the scene. In candid photography, no complicated lighting and aperture techniques are needed as the story of the candid picture itself makes the photo eye-catching.

Use a telephoto lens or a long zoom camera lens, the type of lenses used by paparazzi's. This will allow you take pictures farther away from your object, which will allowyou to see them in a relaxed and normal state great for candid photos.

If you are moving, set the ISO of your camera to 400 so that you have a fast shutter speed. For digital cameras, shutter speed is usually a problem as a digital cam analyzes a scene first before capturing it, giving some lag time and usually causing you to miss a critical shot. Adjusting the ISO to this level should remove this problem.

Do not use your auto flash feature. Nothing says your picture is being taken like the flash of a camera. It will give away your position as a photographer and at the same time, you will end up getting more posed shots after as the people are more aware of you taking photographs.

If in doubt, do not hesitate to approach the person and ask permission. While most people like getting themselves in front of a camera, there are times when you have to respect the privacy of your subject. With that said, if you are unsure if you can capture a picture of the person, all you need to do is ask. A good way to ask is by complimenting the feature of the person that made you choose him or her as a model and ask if you can take a picture of this great feature. This technique should work in getting you that permission.

If all else fails, you can always shoot from the hip. One thing that really ruins a candid moment is that people, and even animals end up acting differently when they notice that someone is documenting their movement. When you find this happening a lot, take pictures through your hip. Framing may be difficult but you get the right angle on this in due time and with a lot of practice. This is one of the advantages of using digital photography when it comes to taking candid shots, you do not limit yourself with the perfect shot as you do not think about film getting wasted.
