To play in the NHL you must separate yourself from the other 99 percent of goalies and to win the stanley cup you must be the #1 goalie in the world. Sure you can work hard like everyone else, but it takes more than just hard work to get to the NHL. If hard work alone brought championships and millions of dollars, Finland would be a country full of millionaires and world champions.

What most people don't know is that there is a formula, a recipe for success, that the top athletes as well as the richest people in the world use. Now I will reveal to you that formula from a goalie point of view, and by following that formula you can be successful too.

First you must be honest with yourself. The only way to get to the top is to be realistic and brutally honest. You have to get out of the fantasy world that many players, goalies and parents live in. Most people are not cut out mentally to even have a chance to make it to the NHL. You have to deal with a tremendous amount of pressure. You have to be able to push yourself out from you comfort zone. You have to be able take criticism and setbacks and still stay focused. People will try to bring you down just because they don't have what it takes to make it to the top, so they don't want you to make it either.

All the greats in every sport possess something special. A lot of people have it but most do not. Virtually all the champions, such as Tim Thomas and Patrick Roy, have it. It is hard to explain so I have devised the following Success Quiz which you can take to see if you have it. If you have it you are going to make it far.

There is a formula you can follow to be a winner in hockey and in life, but you must be brutally honest with yourself. Great athletes and winners in life overall have a special quality which sets them apart from 98 percent of the population. You can be in that special two percent if you really want to. It all starts with your way of thinking and putting those thoughts into action. Getting to the NHL is tough, so you have to be too and not give up. You must believe in yourself because if you don't, nobody else will. You have to dream big, think big and take action every day.
