THE COLORS OF WOMEN'S SHOES

At school, people study the three primary and three secondary colors. Eventually, combinations are created, which also led to the manufacture of a box of crayons with 150 assorted colors containing such unheard-ofs as cerise, phlox, mantis and buff. Over time, those vainglorious creations called women adopted these little-known shades and painted womens shoes with them. Thus began this lively and unusual polygamous relationship with a multi-colored closet full of pairs of shoes. Men will surely see it as odd because with men's shoes, you get brown, black and gray and that's it. Other colors on men's shoes are aberrations. But if those are the only colors you see in a woman's closet, there must be something wrong with her.

Womens shoes are created using actual and invented colors. This must be the reason why no matter how many pairs of shoes a woman owns, it will always happen that there is nothing she owns that is appropriate to wear on that day. And who can blame her? Men would not understand the difference among coral pink, deep pink, hot pink, lavender pink, rose pink, shocking pink, thulian pink and ultra pink. In the vocabulary of womens shoes, these are poles apart from each other. Pink just will not do it.

Well, somebody did warn us that men are from Mars and women are from Venus. This interplanetary distance must be why a man and a woman shopping together can be an adventure more surprising to casual observers than if they made out in broad daylight. It would even be more surprising if the man and the woman actually enjoy each other's company while doing so. It might be like dating and relationships; at the beginning, the man would willingly go along with it. After the fiftieth pair of shoes and still no purchase - because they keep on giving her India green and she is looking for Islamic green - you can just hear teeth grinding, see fists clenching and brows furrowing. Martians would say, "But the last one was the fiftieth!" Those from Venus would smile and move on to the next shoe store.

Despite the fickle-mindedness of women during what must have felt like an entire ordeal for her male companion, at the end of the day, the woman would still have purchased more womens shoes than the man has purchased for himself, non-shoe products included. She must have acquiesced to getting that India green pair of shoes and then, entered another store and found the exact Islamic green she was initially looking for. Naturally, she had to get it, too. Would she go back to the other store to return the India green ones? Of course not; she also has a handbag that goes with that exact shade.

It would make one wonder whether this obsession with womens shoes is the fault of those boxes of crayons. Perhaps it is. Cinderella did have a pair of glass slippers that would have gone with most anything, but that was before mankind distinguished Navajo white from Antique white.
