Unique Gifts: Make Your Own Gift Baskets

One type of unique gifts that you can make on your own is gift baskets. They are unique presents simply because you made them, thus you will be the sole person who will dictate the contents and no one else will be able to replicate this gift of yours completely.

If you are considering making gift baskets of your own to give to your friends, loved ones or even just acquaintances, here are simple steps on how to create such gifts.
- Step 1: Prepare the materials. You will need the following items at least.
- Basket
- Clear cellophane
- Japanese paper
- Newspapers (as needed)
- Ribbon
- Sticky tape
- Contents of the basket
- Gift tag

The biggest challenge in creating a gift basket is knowing what items to place in the basket. It helps if you have a theme in mind so that all the items you will buy look harmonious together. For example, the gift basket is for your 7 year-old niece. You can prepare her an educational gift basket, fill the basket with things she can use at school like crayons, pencils, notebooks, flashcards and coloring books. Or, if the basket is for a baby shower, you can make a basket full of baby diapers, both disposable and cloth.

Step 2: Prepare the basket. Line it with shredded newspaper at the bottom so that the items you bought will pop out of the basket. Then top that with two to three layers of Japanese paper, the color of it should match your ribbon's

Step 3: Determine the front part of your basket and place all the gift items in. Make sure that you arrange it in such a way that all items are seen individually from the front part of your basket. You can do this by placing large items at the back and smaller ones in front. There should be no odd looking gaps between items.

Step 4: Spread the cellophane on the floor. Then place the basket in the middle of the cellophane. Enclose the basket with the cellophane and the result should be a bunch of cellophane that looks like they are exploding on top of the basket. Use a sticky tape to secure that bunch together

Step 5: Observe the basket and the cellophane. If there are edges of the cellophane sticking out, use the sticky tape to pull them down.

Step 6: Use the ribbon and tie it around the bunched up cellophane on top of the handle of the basket to hide the sticky tape that was holding it together. There are ready made ribbons that you can use or you can produce your own ribbons.

Step 7: Attach the gift tag on the basket with a sticky tape or you can punch a hole on its upper left corner and tie it to the ribbon. This will surely be one of the best gifts that your recipient will get.
