It was formerly an established fiction that animals could actually heal people. It was even a fallacy. In fact, some were viewed with repulsion as bad omens like the cat. History has it that animals in the olden times were not treated well but there were indications in the earlier existence of man that he was actually friends with animals. Since society has aged, people began to develop an affinity to animals as pets alone. While these animals are kept at home, their function is mostly to stay there, wait for their masters to come home, be fed, be petted, and be left behind while the homeowner sleeps. Now, a recent development has come about: they can be instruments to therapy .

Changes occur so fast that even love is given a price. In a modern world, people lack the luxury of time to even entertain what used to be a basic need: the need for recreation. One engrossed for work takes solace only in sleep. One who frequently travels finds rest at vacation. These sojourn point out a seemingly sedentary life despite one's mobility. Then there is sickness, death, pain, and loneliness. While most people seek treatment in medicine, their prognosis is not very optimistic . When a person's psychological burden complements his physical illness, hope seems dim. The following lists some of the illnesses that pets help treat.

Alzheimer's Disease. Animals re-orient patient back to the present. Why people close to a patient are unable to do that, medical literature is yet to explain.

Attention Deficiency Syndrome. Children who suffer from this illness have pets to keep them focused.

Schizophrenia. Animals are known to facilitate them eventually open up to the society.

Epilepsy. Mostly, pet dogs can predict an impending seizure with their own special ability.

Depression or Loneliness. People who lost a loved one were found to have improved moods after interacting with a pet.

Down's Syndrome. Children were found to be susceptible to joy when playing with a pet.

Cardiovascular Diseases. Specifically high pressure and heart attack, a general observation shows that pets help lower down the blood pressure thereby reducing the risk of a heart attack.

Specific Disabilities. Some people who have disabilities have shown effort to give their attention to a pet. Some studies found that children who have difficulty walking were trying hard to keep their balance so they can play with a cat. Some whose head movements cannot be controlled tried to keep still focusing their attention.

Elderly. Studies among the elders in nursing homes yielded similar results that the elders' mood improved after interacting with pets.

Across the world, a million of things happen all at once. Some of them are limited to the human experience of living their daily routines. What happens when humans interact with animas is another story. Some people exploit this relationship. Some do not care at all. Some are undecided . But some people's lives are changed by animals in areas where other human beings fail to go. That is scientifically proven.
