Smooching with your favorite pets is always a warm and great moment, and pretty harmless too, except of course having that little drool brushed all over your face. But that's only normal since it is part of the package. Unfortunately, there's more to that.

There is the incident of the MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus), a certain germ discovered to have resisted drugs in human cases that have already showed up in cases of pet infections. And, such cases are increasing. Although its influence has yet to be determined regarding the impact of pets in human infections, as both vets and physicians do not regularly trace such infections back to their sources, scientific observations are pointing out to a stronger link. In any case, this should be considered a serious concern that would eventually estrange people from their pet animals. Think of it as taking a common sense approach of the matter, just like you would when, say you are about to go inside public restrooms.

Here are some smart tips to protect both you and your beloved pets from seemingly harmless acts of bonding:

Continue with the same precautions and protocols to prevent the general spread of germs. Diligently wash both hands using water and soap, or in other cases, sanitize using hand gels whenever playing with your pet animal.

To play safe, considering the increasing number of infections supposedly related to pet smooching (although there is still no direct evidence of the relationship of bacteria and face licking), care to avoid instances where your pet dog gets to lick around your face. If you want to allow your pet to show its affection to you in the way he knows best, it would be better to leave your mouth and nose out of it. And, improve on the hygienic practices while on it. You have absolutely nothing to lose here.

Clean your pet's food bowls in another sink. Do not introduce them to where you prepare food. If you only have one sink however, make sure you sanitize it right after you finished washing its food bowl.

Whenever attending to your pet with open wounds, make it a habit to wear gloves. If you have your own share of broken skin or wounds, care to bandage them up first before you attend to your pet.

Always be attentive to your pet and its wellbeing. This is accomplished by visiting the vet for its routine exams.

All these things mentioned here are by no means a sugguestion to start avoiding your pet or worse, banishing it outside the home in an outdoor life. The best thing you can do would be to take few added precautions when dealing with it, not because it's going to become a health concern but because you care about everyone inside the home, especially with your pet. One more thing, contrary to what many believe that it's the pets that unconsciously spread the germs to people and around the home, scientific research are actually becoming more convinced that it's the other way around.
