Carbon dioxide has been linked to global warming, since increased levels of CO2 in the atmosphere causes the average temperature on the planet to rise significantly.

Using wind power reduces sulfur dioxide emissions. SO2 is produced as a by-product of burning fossil fuels and when it reaches the upper atmosphere, reacts with other chemicals to produce highly-toxic acid rain. When acid rain falls to earth it results in acidification of rivers and forests, which can result in the death of many species of fish and animals and the loss of biodiversity.

Wind power uses less land than traditional power plants. Small-scale wind power generators that are mounted on towers typically require around one half-acre although the actual space required can be as small as one square yard. And these towers do not interfere with other uses the land might be put to. For example, cows can still graze around the bottom of the tower. The land can also continue to be used for agricultural purposes.

Wind power can be combined with other sources of renewable energy in order to ensure a consistent source of electricity. For example, wind power generators are often used in conjunction with solar panels. The wind turbines create power during winter months when there is less sunlight and the solar panels take over during the summer months, when the sun is at its most hot and wind speeds are weaker.

Wind power generators have a shorter pay-back time in terms of the electricity that is used to make them. Studies have shown that it takes as little as six months for the electricity produced by the wind turbine to offset the amount of energy needed to produce it.

One issue that needs to be addressed, however, is that of the amount of noise produced by wind turbines. While sound levels of wind turbines are generally low and not sufficient to damage people s hearing or cause other health effects, concerns have been raised over exposure to low frequency sounds. While some researchers have claimed that long-term exposure to the low-frequency sounds produced by wind power generators can have negative effects on the body, these findings have not been recognized by the mainstream medical community. Wind turbines are also not considered a major source of electromagnetic fields since measurements of EMF emission levels around wind farms have found them to be low.
