To clean your leather horse saddle bag, you must take off dust and dirt using a clean and moist rag. Get a bucket filled with warm water and a sponge. Soak the sponge into the bucket and wring out the water. Use the sponge to wipe your saddle and the bag so as to open the leather's pores for it to absorb oils.
Get a rag and place saddle soap on it. Apply this on to your leather horse saddle bag and work up a lather. Make sure the undersides and the creases of the saddle are reached. For the hard-to-reach places, use a toothbrush. Make sure that there are no torn billets, broken tree, loose stitching and shifted padding on your saddle. If there are any extra suds, use a clean rag to wipe them off.
Have with you an oil product good for animals and use small quantities of it on your leather. This will make it supple and soft. You can use your fingers or a clean rag to apply the oil. Let the leather absorb the oil before you buff it. In buffing, utilize a dry, unspoiled soft rag so as to make the leather shine. As you buff, use fast and tiny circular motions over your saddle. If there are any metals on your bags, polish this with a metal polisher so that your saddle and the bags will look fresh .
There are things to commit to memory when cleaning your saddle bag. The first thing is not every type of leather can be made shiny. Bringing out its luster will depend on the way you treated and cured it. If there are marks or scratches that you want unnoticeable , you can use a shoe polish of the same color. This is helpful only to marks and scratches that are not that deep. Have with you a spray bottle containing leather cleaner and an extra rag so that you can rub it on your saddle bag after every ride. This will ensure that you preserve it for a lifetime.
