How to Install Roller Blinds

If you no longer find curtains to effectively cover your windows, go for roller blinds. These come in different designs, shapes, sizes and styles. They are made of either vinyl or plastic. They can block out sunlight coming in to keep the room dark and private. Installing these blinds is not difficult and it only needs a few tools that can be found in your house.

The first thing to do is to measure your window by depth and width. You can either install the blinds inside the window's recess or frame or outside of the frame. There are many sizes of roller blinds so get one that appropriately fits the size of your window. If you wish to mount it outside of the window frame, make sure it is a bit wider to fit the window properly.

When hanging, correctly put the blinds on the window's top. Properly flatten them and get a pencil to mark the spot of the bracket found at the blind's edges on the wall or frame of the window. On the brackets' screw holes, insert the pencil so that you can mark the holes' position. Get a power driller and drill pilot holes on the marks of the screw holes you made with the pencil.

After drilling the appropriate holes, each bracket should be screwed to the wall or frame of the window using the accompanying screws. Make sure each of the brackets was screwed on tightly and straightly. There are plastic inserts with the roller blinds and these should be clipped into the brackets' sockets. Place the blinds in these inserts.

When you buy roller blinds, they are usually masonry or wood screws that go with it. If you have metal windows frames or drywall surfaces, you need to get specialty screws which can be purchased from hardware stores or home improvement stores.

You need to clean your blinds so that they would not accumulate dust over time. Get a cup of detergent and add it to a tub of water. If yours are very dirty blinds and you wish to lighten it up, use bleach that is secure with colors. Take off the blinds from the walls and soak them inside the tub for a couple of hours. If you wish to use your kitchen sink, just fold the blinds properly before soaking.

Get a toothbrush and scrub the portions that are very dirty. Make sure to dip the toothbrush bristles into the cleaning solution you made. Brush the blinds while they are dipped into the water. You may also take them out of the tub to scrub gently.

After brushing, take the blinds from the water and check if the dirt has been removed. If you are not satisfied, remove the water from the tub and add a fresh one with detergent. Soak the blinds for another couple of hours. After the dirt has finally been removed, hang them over the tub for drying. Once dry, fasten them again to the roller and install on the window.
