Many parents encourage their children to learn how to play music instruments either at home or at school. There are those who even pay for private lessons so that their children would become musically inclined. This is because such lessons let a person acquire the skills of playing an instrument and instill concentration, discipline and love for the art. Plenty of people consider it smart to motivate their children to learn to play music at a young age. Schools usually teach music to students either on the 5th or 6th grade.

When your child turns two, you can introduce to him music instruments that you have made on your own. This can be a tambourine made of a durable paper plate, circular discs made of cardboard and small bells. You can also introduce the drum to him using the can of his powdered milk. Make a horn out of the small empty carton of his cereals. The idea is to let him know that sounds can be made by these. While he creates the said sounds, you can play music on the background to go with his playing.

As you child grows up, buy him toy music instruments such as drums, xylophones, guitars or keyboards. Play with him so that this would also serve as your bonding time together while teaching him how to produce sounds with it. The idea is to expose him to music and the various instruments. It will also provide him something enjoyable to occupy his time with.

If there are concerts, musical events or orchestra performances in your area, take your child with you. It will make him experience and see for himself people playing instruments and producing beautiful and rhythmic music with them. It will also make him appreciate the art well as an observer as he hears the different sounds mixed together to come up with a melody.

You can also take your child to an event where a marching band plays. Tell him the different instruments used by a marching band. Let him hear how the instruments play together to produce music.

Take your child to shops selling music instruments and tell him what these are. Ask the shop attendant to produce sounds with these instruments. Educate him as to where these instruments are played, whether in a band or in an orchestra. The more you teach him about music, the more it will be etched in his mind and the more he will understand and appreciate it.

Play music in your house and in your car. Whenever there are musical activities in your area, make your child come with you. Teach him the different genres of music and ask him which he likes to hear most. Tell him that you will buy him a musical instrument that he would be interested in playing in the future.

Music is a beautiful and artistic representation of life which your children should comprehend and value. With these tips, you will surely motivate him to one day play a music instrument.
