While the Braun Clean & Renew can make your shaver feel like new every day, eventually daily wear and tear will require some maintenance work to ensure continuous and optimum performance. At a minimum, Braun recommends that you replace the foil and the cutter block every eighteen months. The foil is the perforated screen in front of the razor through which the hairs will extend beyond and the cutter block is the blade that will cut them. Under the wear of daily use, the foil can become damaged, making shaving painful and less effective, and the cutter block can become dull. These two parts are usually changed together to make certain that your Braun shaver continues to function at 100|efficiency. In some cases, however, you may decide to change the foil alone if it tears or becomes otherwise damaged.

While one and a half years is the suggested changing time for these parts, you should still sporadically give them the foil a visual inspection to check for symptoms of wear such as nicks or dents that would require it to be replaced already. In addition, you might also want to change the cutter block already if you no longer feel that it is given you a close shave, even if it is before the eighteen month suggested replacement period. The Braun Clean & Renew system will clean your razor and make it feel like new but will not re-sharpen the cutting block.

Another important thing to remember is that you need to purchase replacement parts that are intended specifically to work with your particular shaver model. While some replacement parts are interchangeable, in general, using parts not designed for your shaver may cause internal damage to the mechanism. In addition, you should realize that as long as the part is intended specifically for your razor, as indicated on the packaging, it will work even if it looks slightly different. The reason for this is that Braun may have made some improvements since the model was first introduced.

You can change the foil of your Braun shaver by either pressing the release button or just pulling it out, and then replacing it with the new one. To take off the cutter block, all you have to do is hold the edges of the block and then rotate it ninety-degrees before pulling it off. To replace the block, simply pop the new part back in its holder. If the shaver system uses a cassette that incorporates the foil and cutter block in one unit, all you have to do is remove the old cassette and change it with the new one.

For models that come with the Braun Clean & Renew system, you will also need to replace the cleaning cassette approximately four times a year. The cartridge contains the alcohol-based cleaning solution that the device uses as well as storing the hairs that fall out of the shaver head during the cleaning cycle. These cassettes are available in packs of twelve, two, three and even six.
