When you are facing a kitchen renovation, the most extensive portion of that remodeling job is putting in new cabinets. If you have chosen the perfect cabinets, you will be spending quite a bit of money. Cabinets are the most expensive item in any kitchen because they take up the most room and offer the most longevity along with the most functions. Since cabinets are so large and useful, you will see high price tags on most of them. When you spend that much money on your new kitchen, you want to make sure the cabinets are installed correctly. At that point in your remodeling job, you might also want to save a little money. You can save your budget from getting too costly if you simply install the cabinets on your own.

The first thing you will need to do to install your new cabinets is remove the old cabinets. You will want to be careful during this procedure so you do not have to fix the walls or floors around the old cabinets. You might also want to use the old cabinets in another part of the house or you could even sell them and make up some of the money you are losing when you remodel your kitchen.

Once you have the old cabinets out and the new cabinets arrive and are ready to go, you will want to work on installing the hanging cabinets first. It is a good idea to put the hanging cabinets in first so that the base cabinets are not in the way of your installation job. You will want to make sure the wall cabinets are level and you can make adjustments with shims as you go. You w ill also want to make sure you drill any screws you use directly into studs. You might want to mark the studs before you start the project so you do not have to stop to figure out where they are.

Once you have the hanging cabinets up and level, you will want to start working on the base cabinet installation. The most important aspect of installing a base cabinet is making sure the floor is level. If you find any dips or uneven spots in the floor, you will want to fix these areas or at least level the cabinets with shims along the way. You can use the hanging cabinets to help you guide the base cabinets into the right position.
