Skin care does not just involve the usual cleansing and moisturizing that we often hear of. It should also include keeping your skin protected, specifically from the harmful rays of the sun. If your one to always go outdoors and spend lots of time under the sun or someone who just comes out every so often to enjoy the warmth that the outdoors have to offer, you need to consider protecting your skin. Yes, the sun is not all bad but if your over exposed to it, there can be consequences.

To manage your exposure to the sun, here are a couple of skin care guidelines that can keep those unwanted consequences at bay.

Use only a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of a minimum of 15. Despite the fact that it is cloudy outside or it is not really that sunny, you still need sun protection. You may not be immediately exposed to the rays of the sun but the heat that it emits can still have dangerous effects.

For people that plan to go swimming or sweat profusely, you should re-apply your sunscreen every 2 hours. This also applies to sunscreen lotions that are waterproof.

Pick a sunscreen that indicates that it is non-comedogenic or does not clog the pores. That way you can avoid any irritation and clogged pores from daily sunscreen use.

It is preferable to use a sunscreen that offers a broad spectrum of protection. This means that not only are you protected against UVA rays but UVB as well. This ensures that you are protected from all the possible harmful effects of prolonged exposure to the sun.

Note that the rays of the sun are in its peak during the hours of 10 in the morning up to 4 in the afternoon. This means that you should always reapply your sunscreen during these times. And if it is possible, keep yourself in a shady place during these times. Limit the amount of exposure that you get during these hours of the day.

When close to highly reflective surfaces such as water, you should consider applying more sunscreen to your body.

Do you want to get tanned? There are a lot of different ways to get tanned that includes exposing yourself to the sun. If this cannot be avoided, make sure to time your exposure. Do not expose yourself for more than an hour and make sure to apply sunscreen or a tanning lotion that still contains the proper level of SPF. This ensures that even when you get that tanned body, you will not get sun burned.

After a day at the beach or somewhere outdoors, cool your body down with a shower. Afterwards, do not forget one of the most basic skin care rules  moisturize. Apply a thin layer of moisturizer on your face, lotion on your body and hydrate yourself with lots of water.
