Undoubtedly one of history's more sophisticated art forms, but now one of the most popular would be the political comics. The political cartoon has grown to be imbued upon our culture and our history. It will be the time honored art form that expresses ideas, maxims and philosophies in a succinct and well meaning way. Whatever sort of political cartoons you like to view, there is no argument in the fact that the medium has become one of the very most widely used in today's times today. Nearly every political publication has some form of them, and they're becoming more widely and widely used for artists online. There's no doubting that the political cartoon is here to stay.
The real history of the political comic could be traced back to the visual representations that the infant United States had through the Revolution. From the famous "Join or Die" motif to the "Don't Tread on Me" image, all have grown to be synonymous with a few of the first political or editorial cartoons. Another style of political cartoon belongs to the "Altie" style. This style is far more linear and text heavy, and tends to tell its story with words rather than pictures.
Something that is becoming seriously popular these days is the development of an artist publishing their cartoons or comics online. Many political comics and editorial cartoons are located on line rather than in the paper. This new avenue for cartoons, both regular and political alike, have given the entire spectrum of the medium a new and increasingly growing number of contributions. The political cartoon is no exception for this rule. Many artists have taken their political cartoons and satire online, not merely so that they don't have to fuss with finding syndication or newspapers to carry their cartoons, but so that they can reach a wider and diverse audience using their intellectual creations.
There's no doubt about it, the online world changed the way we view political comics. It's unlikely to change in the near future, nevertheless the prospect is exciting. It's almost a political cartoon in it of itself to find satire and intellectual criticism in a place where no one person can control who is right and who is wrong. That's the great thing about the cartoon on the web. Not only does it give true freedom of expression to the artist, but it really allows more people to be in contact with ideas and intellectual stimuli than previously.
