Sun damage can be minimized by setting one's tent up in an area that is shaded during the middle of the day. Depending on how far one is planning on hiking to get to their camping spot, it is also possible to set up a tarp that covers the top of the tent to further protect it from getting damaged from the UV rays.
Another very important feature that all camping tents should be evaluated for is the design of the door opening. Although it may seem like a trivial feature at first, a camping tent that is difficult to enter or exit will eventually cause problems down the line. For example, if it's hard to get out of the tent, one is more likely to snag their foot on the opening which will end up breaking the zipper. Along the same lines, the zipper tract should not be prone to catching, which is a very common design flaw in many cheaply made tents. Once should also make sure that the mosquito screen is not able to get caught when pulling the zipper up.
