A good deck is the key to the success of a trading card game player. Trading card games such as Yu-Gi-Oh!, Dragonball Z Collectible Card Game, and Magic The Gathering require you to build an effective deck in order to win games against other players. According to professional trading card game players, you don't need to have many strong cards in your deck in order to win. You just need to build a good deck with cards that work well with each other. This short guide will teach you how to construct a basic Pokemon trading card deck.

Choose Your Deck's Theme

The first thing you need to do is to choose your deck's theme. You can choose a type-based theme such as a Fire type deck, Grass type or Psychic type deck. You can also choose a pokemon-based theme such as a Charizard deck, Blastoise deck or Pikachu deck. The theme that you choose will determine the type of Energy card that you need in your deck. For example, if you want to build a Fire type deck, you will need Fire Basic Energy cards. If you want to construct a Pikachu deck, you will need Lightning Basic Energy cards because Pikachu is a Lighting type monster.

Energy Cards

It is recommended that you have at least 30 Energy cards in your deck. Make sure that your energy cards match the type of your deck. If your deck is a Fire type deck, then make sure that you have at least 30 Fire Basic Energy cards. If you don't have any Lightning type cards in your deck, then do not include any Lightning Basic Energy cards in your deck.

Trainer Cards

You should also make sure that you have at least 10 Trainer cards in your deck. The Trainer cards that you put in your trading cards deck depends on your strategy. Read the descriptions of your Trainer cards to know how they work and how each of them can contribute to your deck. For example, Super Potion cards keep your monster in good health during battle, but you need to spend Energy cards in order to activate them, so you may need to increase the number of Energy cards in your deck. If you wish to save your Energy cards for summoning and evolving your monsters, then do not include Super Potion cards in your deck.

Pokemon Cards

The last step is to put the pokemon cards in your deck. You need a minimum of 20 of these cards in your deck. Remember that the monster types should match the type of Energy cards in your deck. For example, if you have Fire Basic Energy cards, then you must include Fire-type monsters such as Charmander, Charmeleon, and Charizard. Two-thirds of your monster cards should be Basic monsters (e.g. Charmander, Pikachu) and the rest should be Evolved monsters (e.g. Charmeleon, Raichu).
