When choosing the right snowboard, you will have to narrow down the number to the few that meet your needs before going into snowboard sizing. Choosing the size that is best for you, the decision will have to be based on a few factors. These factors will include your boot size, body type and weight. Other factors you will also have to consider are your level of experience and riding style.

Weight is the first thing you can use to further narrow down the options. Most board manufacturers include a size chart specific to the snowboard brands. These charts act as a good point to start narrowing down board sizes although 2-3 different sizes are able to fit any weight. The other factor to consider is the body type. It is a common mistake for many to mainly focus on their height when it comes to selecting boards. Its a mistake because the snowboard gets no input from the riders height rather the weight presses the board into the snow. In reference to the board size, the body type determines the riders height.

Small sized boards are ideal for short and stocky riders whereas those who are tall and skinny are better suited for longer snowboards. When it comes to boot size a comparison should be made to the snowboards width. The print of the boot is more valid than that of the actual foot since there are boots with smaller prints than others.

Boot print is even more important for those that have a boot size above 11. During this exercise you will want to make sure you do everything possible to avoid heal and toe drag. The board waist width and the performance it can achieve are both relative to the boot size.

Board sizing also depends on the riders experience. Those with little experience doing everyday resort cruising should go with shorter boards that allow them to maneuver and turn easily. When it comes to powder riding for good float while doing slow speeds the longer boards will be more suitable. Experienced riders have better handling of longer boards in all situations.

Short sized boards are easy to maneuver and spin which makes them popular among freestyle riders. Those that enjoy free riding an entire mountain will most probably be on snowboards that will in the long run become their ideal board length. Longer boards are popularly preferred by the back country and high speed free riders. Additionally, board type and riding conditions should be considered during snowboard sizing.
