More people go to prison for drug possession. This is absolutely a myth. Marijuana often leads to addiction. When used under control, marijuana does not lead to clinical dependence. The dependence resulting from heavy use is a fact but this has been observed only in a very few percentage of the general population of marijuana users.

Marijuana causes cancer. There has been no scientific evidence to prove that smoking weed causes cancer. While marijuana contains carcinogens, no findings about cancer development have been found. In fact, the effect of marijuana indicates the contrary: that it appears to inhibit the development of tumor. An influencing factor related to this claim may be related to the intake of marijuana by smoking. Note that marijuana can also be consumed without having to smoke it.

Marijuana smokers are all heavy users. This is a quick generalization. Drawing from a survey used on marijuana users, the results revealed that only a few percentage of the entire population are heavy users. This accounts for a significant difference between heavy users of cocaine and heroin.

Marijuana is harmless. Everything done in excess can be harmful and marijuana use is not exempted. Heavy use leads to the same effects as smoking cigarettes: bronchitis, respiratory illnesses, and other related diseases. In terms of alcohol, there is a risk associated with road dangers. However, driving under the influence of alcohol still accounts for a larger cause of road accidents.

Marijuana is dangerous. When consumed in large doses and used frequently that leans on clinical dependence, marijuana can be harmful. However, it still does not beat the harms caused by smoking and drinking alcohol.
