We have been returning to Maui now for close to 20 years and chose to give a brand-new resort, the Honua Kai Resort, a go. We did some examination and made a reservation for our 2BR Ocean view villa via the highly proficient Maui Resort Realty group (more concerning them later on).

In reality, our opening impression of Honua Kai Resort was not the very best: we were not really acquainted with the resort's North Kaanapali coastline location and when we pulled up to the porte cochere outside the lobby, I felt underwhelmed by the pretty uninspiring hotel entrance as well as bordering surroundings. We were quickly ushered in by the management company representative and came into the lobby for overview of the . Upon entering the resort my worry dissolved; the lobby area and were some of the most aesthetically pleasing hotel focus points I had actually seen during my years going over to Hawaii.

With a sense of expectancy we accompanied the agent up to our unit. The accommodation was up-to-date however kept a truly Hawaiian feel and I could not identify any type of flaw. The views were great; the ocean off in the distance with the swimming pool areas in the forefront. The young man showed us around the rental and did a good job making us feel comfortable, letting us know to call him at any time if we required assistance.

I recall seeing someplace that the title Honua Kai is Hawaiian for Land and Sea; after taking a walk on this large, beach front property (38 acres) I appreciated that the resort's name was sensibly decided on. Substantial swaths of green lawn, dunes and beach provided a feeling of openness to the resort uncommon in lots of common Hawaiian beachfront resorts.

Facilities:

I will mainly concentrate on which features of the property my family members took pleasure in the most:

Mom appreciated the several fitness centers located in both the Konea and Hokulani towers. She enjoyed getting her early morning workout session prior to beginning the day.
I enjoyed extensive swimming pool features, which probably encompassed a minimum of 3 or 4 acres sandwiched by the coastline and resort. I enjoyed alternating in between swimming and body boarding in the sea, showering off and swimming in the swimming pool or sitting back in the Jacuzzi.
The youngsters really appreciated getting goodies from the Aina market place, swimming pool areas, water slides and, of course, being able to socialize with some other kids their ages (we went during Spring Break).
A couple of additional insights:

The Honua Kai Resort property has everything for everybody and IMHO was an absolutely excellent vacation adventure.

There is a terrific walking path in front of Honua Kai Hotel that takes you to the well-known Blackrock point in front of the Sheraton hotel and back past the Royal Lahaina resort as well as Westin Kaanapali Sea resort. I actually delighted in the opportunity to experience the North side of Black rock; while a little bit quieter, it was in many ways a more impressive setting at that point the South Kaanapali beach area. Snorkeling is terrific in front of the resort-- but, beware, I would certainly suggest joining the water 75 yards to the south of the resort to prevent the coral.

Pros and Cons:

Family friendly
Villas are recently built as well as beautifully designated
Beautiful grounds, swimming pool areas and relaxed setting
Management company was really responsive pertaining to the few problems we had in the unit (some appliance quick fix concerns)
Friendly staff

Cons

Market was terrific however costly for what they offered
The area behind hotel is not that beautiful-- the resort is across the street from a business facility (although can't complain about the vistas of West Maui Mountains)
I would have liked to see the day spa open-- the Honua Kai resort and spa is the recognized title and supposedly it will open up soon.
Overall impression:

Despite a few slight detracting concerns, the Honua Kai Resort challenges the Marriott's Maui Ocean club for very best resort facilities, and accommodations are in a class by themselves.
I would strongly advise using Mauiresortrealty.com for reserving the Honua Kai-- their rates are much better than the ones offered directly from the hotel and their service was great from starting to end.
