Search engines now look at the content of the website itself, and gauge its relevance using various methods, most notably through the number of people sharing it in social media. If you want to optimize your website, then, make sure that it contains information that visitors will find useful, relevant, and interesting enough that they will link back to it or share it to others.

Encourage "sharing" through the use of social media share buttons. A variety of social networking sites now have "share" buttons which you can embed in your website. Make use of these as an Internet marketing tool. Remember, people are more likely to share information from your site to others if all it takes is clicking on a button instead of the old-school way of copying and pasting the URL to a post they made.
