Continued... I begged the police woman to let me get the vehicle back however it was definitely too late... it was taken to the pound! Well as I sauntered back to my people I was devastated, what the hell was I planning to do as a result of I possessed absolutely no funds about myself together with no chance to get any ... ... Lo and behold one of my passengers, the incredible man and umpire Carlos Bernardes saved the day by means of offering to pay for the airport taxi to the pound and the exorbitant release payment to receive the car back... God bless him:).

Samsung Tennis and more!

Despite that unfavorable occurrence everything else at the Samsung Tournaments was without a doubt a great memory, one particular occasion i was sat in the players lounge when i overheard a number of players mentioning that they were one short for a game of Bridge (4 players required ), I happened upon mentioning that I was at that time being taught and indeed playing the game at a fair standard and in doing so a professional called Jeff Tarango asked if I would like to team up with them to make up a four, naturally I accepted and I sat down to partner Jeff in opposition to his then doubles partner David Adams along with a fourth player who's name I fail to remember yet it was a great experience and besides the aspect that Jeff Tarango did possess a slight 'Tennis Bad Boy' notoriety as a result of an altercation with an official at Wimbledon in 1995 the guy was really a terrific Bridge partner and we finished up winning! A separate wonderful experience amid the 1997 Samsung Open was that of a fundraiser sponsored by Samsung and was held at a gorgeous estate called Somerley House which was situated on the border of the New Forest National Park about 25 miles outside Bournemouth. I had the desirable responsibility of picking up the European representative of Samsung from London in a lavish new Mercedes Benz Limo and driving him down to Somerley House, He underwent his official business at the House then afterwards I took him back to London straight after the function. During the time of the function at the Residence I had the ability to mingle with the invitees that included David Gower (England international Cricketer) and a soap star from Coronation Street but as I was totally immune to Soaps at the time I did not recognize her i'm afraid, I sat down with all of the guests including the hosts Lord and Lady Normanton for a delicious dinner and subsequently it was at that time in which the return journey to London was made, in conclusion an incredible experience I shall certainly never forget. As stated in my last blog the Samsung Open Tournaments were held at Bournemouth from 1996-1999 and will definitely be sorely missed.

U18 Girls International Tennis

An additional Tournament however was held at Bournemouth at 'The West Hants Club' in 1999 and I was offered the opportunity to be involved once more in a driving/chauffeur capability and this brilliant Tournament was called 'The Maureen Connolly Trophy' and is contested between Great Britain and the U.S.A. and includes under 18 girls although it often consists of girls a lot younger than 18 not surprisingly as it gives the youngsters a perfect chance to be competitive within an international arena. My mission having chosen to take it was to be in charge of the British team furthermore it offered me an opportunity to watch, talk with and even have meals with the girls together with their excellent coach at the time Nick Brown who was without a doubt such a nice guy and very approachable and relaxed and appeared to have a really good rapport with all of the girls.

I certainly was considerably privileged to be entailed with each of these Tennis related endeavors during the course of my time at 'The West Hants Club' and some other memorable Tournaments in which I aided with were, 'The Fred Perry Cup', 'The Von Cramm Cup', The Midland Bank National Junior Championships, Rover British Clay Court Championships and several satellite/futures events almost all of which have actually now discontinued but are certainly not forgotten.
