Most of the right-wing people who are against making the sale and use of marijuana talk as if doing so will rip apart the fabric of society as people know it. But is the legalization of weed really that bad? The answer is a resounding "no", if anything, legalizing marijuana may actually be a good thing. If you are not convinced that legalizing weed will not help the country, then here are some bits of information that may help to change your mind.

The courts and the police can focus more on the real crimes

The people who went to jail because they got busted for possession of marijuana are not that dangerous at all. In fact, most of those that were charged with possession are not really planning on selling their stash; in some cases they were only caught with a small bag of pot, not even enough to share with someone else. These "victimless criminals" are very prevalent in the country's penal institutions, and if take into account how much money is spent to keeping these rather harmless prisoners in jail, then you are looking at hundreds of millions of dollars every year.

If and when the legalization of cannabis becomes a reality, the courts and the police departments would have more money in their coffers to go after the true criminals like rapists, child molesters, murderers, and the like, and they should just leave the innocent users alone.

Legalization can actually control the amount if weed that goes in the market

When the prohibition ended, liquor makers and retailers were required to get licenses in order to sell their products, and this made it easier for the government to regulate the amount and purity of alcoholic beverages that went out for sale, this also made it harder for minors to get their hands on them. Despite the bad reputation that it does not really deserve, there has been no documented case of someone actually dying or even rushed to the emergency room because they overdosed on marijuana, it is simply not toxic enough to do so. When it is legalized, this will serve as an opportunity for researchers to delve more into what cannabis can do for the health industry.
