Creating a Happy Family

Children laughter echoes from the backyard...your wife to your right smiling contented at you while you sip on a cocktail. Everyone is happy and relaxed. This is definitely the life of a happy family.

This picture is beautiful but how do you get that happy family and that picturesque life. How does someone like you go about creating a happy family?

The first thing you must ask yourself is what you think a happy family is. Everyone's concept or understanding of a happy family is different. For one man a happy family is a family that is disciplined and god fearing. Another might think that a happy family is one that has money to spend on everything they could ever desire.

From my experience it does not take just one thing to create a happy family. There are many elements that make up a happy family. At times the ingredients can be different of course depending on the type of happy family you want.

These are my recipes for my happy family:

Happy you- I know you are saying happy me?? This guy must have lost his mind! If you are not happy how are you going to make others happy? I realize that when I am unhappy or frustrated it often reflects on my family as they become tense and sad because they have no clue how to fix the problem or they are afraid to approach me. I keep myself happy by being true to myself. Part of being true to me is that I focused on the life I wanted and love. All though it is important to spend time with the family I also spend time with myself doing things that I love or want to do. Sometimes I just take a moment to relax and unwind or just hang out with my friends. I call it my time away from reality. Happy husband, happy dad and happy people are dependent on those moments of tranquility.

Happy wife- If your wife is happy you are going to be happy...sometimes very happy (wink..wink) and by extension your children are going to be happy. What it takes to make your wife happy is usually not a great mystery as we would like to think at times. Most women all they really want is our divine love, affection and attention...Oh and a good steady cash flow too. So create a time that is just for your wife. One thing I promised my wife is that I will always have time for her no matter how busy I get. We have a long standing date that every second Saturday night is our date night. To mix it up at times I surprise her with an impromptu dinner or date for two. Do little things to show that you care and fellas a surprise with a bouquet of flowers or token is not a bad idea ever so often. So far it seems to be working and she is happy, which makes me happy.

Just like myself I also realize that my wife needs time on her own to relax, do things she wants to do and unwind with friends. I ensure that she gets those opportunities that keep her happy and sane....which then makes the entire family happy and sane.

Happy children- Children can be a little challenging but what they need from us most is our love and attention. They want to feel that they matter and that they too have a voice. No one is more opinionated than children. Allow your children to have an input in family discussions and decision

(Obviously, not all but ones that you feel comfortable discussing with them). Children are creative give them opportunities to demonstrate their creativity. An inactive child cannot possibly be a happy child. Find activities like sports that your children might be interested in and allow them to participate. Create family time where you all spend time as a family doing family activities or just spend moments talking about goals and dreams.

I find that having dinner together around the table often forces us to have conversations and the children are more open. In my house we always have dinner as a family. It is simple to start these discussions all you have to do is ask , how was your day. Give each child personal time so they know that you recognize their individuality. I have moments that I reserve just for my daughter where it is just the two of us hanging out. It is our little Daddy and me time. I also do the same for my son. During those Daddy and me moments I have form a strong bond with my children that allows them to feel that they can talk to me about anything. This will be key to me and them surviving their teenage years.

Have good Finances – I have heard people say that they don't need money to be happy. Personally I do not believe in that. Who can be happy when they are hungry, nowhere to live and a ton of bills to pay. I would be miserable. In order for you to have a happy life your family is going to need money even if it's just enough to cover the basics.
Therefore find yourself a security blanket that you will love or create your own money by investing into a startup or doing something you like. All families need funding so get your finances in order so you can have a happy family.
