Being awarded an opportunity
An opportunity and being able to take advantage of that opportunity is what Malcolm Gladwell focuses on in his book, "Outliers".

If you haven't read the book, it's all about successful people and how they came about their success. No, it isn't because they are smarter than anyone else, it is because they were given an opportunity and they took advantage of it.
Not everyone is given the same opportunities and not everyone is able to take advantage of them.

Sometimes we don't truly understand that we had an opportunity, until it is gone and we are looking back months later. It's not always highlighted and underlined that if we take a certain action, that twenty years from now, we could possibly be the next Bill Gates.

Recognizing an opportunity
In the book, Gladwell talks to a twelve year old girl, who has the opportunity to go to the KIPP academy. This school has a very high success rate, in the amount of kids that graduate and go on to college.

This is what she tells him that she does in her day......

"I wake up at five-forty-five a.m. to get a head start,"she says. "I brush my teeth, shower. I get some breakfast at school, if I am running late. Usually get yelled at because I am taking too long. I meet my friends Diana and Steven at the bus stop, and we get the number one bus."

"I leave school at five p.m., and if I don't lollygag around, then I will get home around five-thirty. Then I say hi to my Mom really quickly and start my homework. And if it's not alot of homework that day, it will take me two to three hours, and I'll be done around nine p.m. Or if we have essays, then I will be done like ten p.m., or ten thirty p.m."

"Sometimes my Mom makes me break for dinner. I tell her that I want to go straight through, but she says I have to eat. So around eight, she makes me break for dinner for, like, a half hour, and then I get back to work. Then, usually after that, my Mom wants to hear about school, but I have to make it quick because I have to get in bed by eleven p.m. So I get all my stuff ready, and then I get into bed. I tell her all about the day and what happened, and by the time we are finished, she is on the brink of sleeping, so that's probably around eleven-fifteen. Then I go to sleep, and the next morning we do it all over again."

The little girls name is Marita. The opportunity that she has been given is a great one. Although some of us may say that she should have more time to play and hangout with friends, she knows what she has been given.

The main thing that hit home for me, is that Marita is working her butt off, just for the opportunity. I'm sure that she knows that she will have a better life because of what she is doing now, but the pay off is years away.

As adults, we do what she is doing as motivation for more money, a new car or a new home, not just for the opportunity that one day we might see it pay off. We barely want to give ninety days to change our lives, let alone ten years, like she is going to have to put into this.

I see it so many times, in my business, where people are given the opportunity to change their financial situation, by committing to a process for 90 days. Most people stop after thirty days and then wonder why it's not working.

They don't get on any of the mindset calls that we have. They won't get on a webinar or complete any of the trainings that provide them with step-by step instructions, that could lead them to $10,000per month.

The worst part is, they are going to do this with every opportunity that they come across.

You must stop letting things get in your way and blocking any opportunity that you have for promoting yourself.

I don't care what business that you're in, you must set a goal for yourself and seize every opportunity to get to that goal. Whatever you have to do in the process, you must do it.

If a twelve year old can do it, just seeing an opportunity, think what you can see beyond that opportunity!
