The first LEGO sets to feature the Coast Guard were the LEGOLAND set 369 Coast Guard Station from 1976, and two really comparable Town sets: 575 Canada Coast Guard Station and 575 U.S. Coast Guard Station from 1978. The first set to sport the present Coast Guard logo of a white and red life ring in a blue coat of arms was 6387 Coastal Rescue Base from 1989. One year later on, the Coast Guard was given a rather huge helicopter: the 6342 Beach Rescue Chopper included Minifigures in the same red colors as in the 1989 set.

In 1995, a new Coast Guard building was released. 6338 Hurricane Harbor used the exact same color scheme as the previous structure, though the colors were inverted. The walls were now white and the window frames were blue. The set featured specialized coastline guard minifigures with gray torso pieces and blue caps, both emblazoned with the developed Coast Guard logo. One year later the Coast Guard got a new ship. The 4022 C26 Sea Cutter was released as part of the Boats line. It had a similar color design to the Coastal Cutter from 4 years previous, and included minifigures with the exact same design as in the Hurricane Harbor set. That exact same year, a Coast Guard Minifigure appeared next to a lifeguard tower sporting the life ring logo in the 6334 Wave Jump Racers set.

With the release of the brand-new Res-Q style in 1998, which covered all the rescue tasks one might potentially envision, the timeless Coast Guard style seemed to have actually been discontinued. Nonetheless, the next launch came simply one year later on, and it brought some new modifications. The set 6435 Coast Guard HQ included minifigures with a new uniform that had blue upper body pieces, and the Coast Guard logo design switched the blue coat of arms with a triangular. The structure reintroduced the color design of the Coastal Rescue Base from 1989, and was the last Coast Guard set to include the traditional blue and white colors for ships and buildings.

In 2003, some sets from the brand-new World City style sported the familiar life ring logo design, this time confined in a diamond shape.
