My name is L.A. Capdevila, ask me what I know about life, family, business and network marketing. Many years ago when I had converted to Christianity my father became very upset with me because I was leaving the family business to follow my calling to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. The family business had taken off and we were expanding in all directions. Because I was my Dad's right hand man, he could not accept that I was leaving everything behind to follow something he did not understand.
I had decided to go study at a place that was about an hour away from home; therefore I could come back on weekends and help my Dad out. I was at a place called Christian Retreat in Bradenton Florida where they offered several biblical studies that I was interested in.
Early one Saturday morning I had gone to the chapel to pray before I headed home in Tampa. I had been praying for an hour when I her an audible voice that said "there is no turning back, no turning back." The surety of having heard this audible voice clouded the message that it brought, so I headed towards the Deans office to get some counsel on what had just happened. When I related to the Dean what had just happen, he asked me what my plans were for the weekend? I told him that I was heading to my parents' house for the next few days. He counseled me to be on alert to what may happen while I was at my parents' house. I thanked him and headed back to Tampa.
To my surprise when I arrived at my mother's house and I entered through the doors, my mother greeted me with these words, "you got to come back and run the family businesses because they have found cancer in your father's lungs." Immediately I heard that same voice say to me "I told you there is no turning back." With tears in my eyes I told my mother that I could not come back, what happened next was not expected. She told me that if I did not come back the business would not pay for my bills and she asked me to give her the keys of the Cadillac that I was driving. My whole family turned on me, telling me what kind of Christian was I that could not come back in this time of crisis.
I had to choose whether to give in to my mother's demands or obey the audible voice I had heard twice. I borrowed a car and headed back to the retreat center a defeated and confused man. I did not understand, if my calling in life was to win others to Christ I had failed because my whole family was not totally against me.
Two weeks later I came back to Tampa to be with my Dad who was going to be operated. As I entered the hospital's waiting my whole family was there and I got the cold shoulder treatment from everyone. I made my way to my Dad's room only to find my Mom and my brothers there. I boldly told my Dad that he was going to accept Christ and that I was going to pray that God would heal him. He was so scared that he accepted my demands and he was taken away to the operating room.
We were all gathered in the waiting (I have a big family) when the Doctor busted through the doors and declared that there had to have been a miracle because they could find no cancer in my Dad's lungs. Needless to say I was a hero that day because everyone had been told how I had prayed for my Dad and in a mocking way they did not believe in anything that I had said in the hospital room. Everyone in that room that day gave their lives to Christ and a new beginning was taking place in my entire family.
I remember my Mom being so happy that she took the keys of the Cadillac and gave them to me and told me that she would pay all of my bills while I was in school. I went back to school fill with joy and happiness, not only because my Dad was healed but because my family came to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. For years now my family has been serving the Lord and we have been used by Him to touch a multitude of people for his glory.
